Their afternoon play- jungle hut
Day 41 of quarantine life- Cyprus kid’s edition🤓. For a month the kids have been receiving/sending assignments via a school app, but this week started with back-to-back zoom classes. They’re working out pretty good but never thought we’d have to make a master schedule for the kid’s zoom classes as well as Dean’s afternoon zoom meetings. Afternoons are a bit more archaic and a lot less digital as the kid’s studies on The Stone Age as well as watching Jungle survivor on YouTube have definitely influenced their afternoon play.
This week is a mixed one. Daily, we navigate through school assignments & routine along with a wide range of emotions that change frequently. One moment you’re celebrating your son’s birthday (thankful that you can make a cake) and the next moment you’re trying to figure out how to collect food for people in your village (while in quarantine/ lockdown) who haven’t worked for over three weeks and struggling to feed their families. It’s hard seeing the needs all around you, hearing the stories of people struggling and yet choosing to laugh and celebrate some of life’s sweetest moments- all at the same time. It’s Holy Week and we have another birthday, and planning a few Easter activities for our family with thankful hearts, yet deeply feeling the effects of a global pandemic all around us. The contrast of all these emotions are heightened this week by grieving things in our lives and in our world, yet also celebrating that we have HOPE. Because of Him, we have hope for what is to come and we have a peace that is beyond our understanding. So we keep pressing forward each day, celebrating the joys and sitting with the grief that comes knowing as King Solomon put it, “There is an appropriate time for everything and there is an appointed time for everything under heaven…He has made all things beautiful in its time.” Ecclesiastes 3:1, 11.
We started our first English club tonight at a local coffee shop. To say I’m excited is an understatement! It was so much fun to get to know the students (and our friends!) and to see their enjoyment in learning together. We’re excited to be able to do this for the next eight weeks and hoping it will continue to grow and excited for all the opportunities it gives.
Celebrating our friend’s daughter’s 13th birthday– Şanlıurfa style.
